William A. Dunson, Jr., MD

Medical Director, Outpatient Services
Assistant Professor, Department of Internal Medicine

William Dunson, MD, is medical director of outpatient services at Huntsman Cancer Institute. In this role, he oversees daily clinic operations; evaluates and implements changes to improve patient, staff, and physician satisfaction; and works toward optimizing the multidisciplinary teams.

Dunson is also the director of Huntsman Cancer Institute’s Internal Medicine Acute Care (IMAC) Clinic. This same-day service is available for any of HCI’s patients who are experiencing an acute problem such as chemotherapy side effects, nausea and vomiting, infections, or worsening of chronic issues such as high blood pressure. Dunson helps by assessing problems, providing treatment, and answering questions.

Dunson received his medical degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. He then completed a residency at the University of Utah Hospitals & Clinics, where he was chief resident his final year. Before joining Huntsman Cancer Institute, Dunson worked with the division of general medicine at the University of Utah and at Madsen Health Center as a primary care physician.
