Theresa Werner, MD, is an investigator at Huntsman Cancer Institute and an instructor in the Division
of Oncology, Department of Internal Medicine, at the University of Utah School of Medicine. As a specialist in adult
hematology and medical oncology, Werner’s main areas of interest include breast cancer and gynecologic malignancies
(cancers of the ovary, uterus, cervix, and vagina).
Werner earned her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, and her medical degree from Indiana
University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. She then completed a residency in internal medicine and a chief medical
residency at the University of Utah School of Medicine, where she received awards for excellence in teaching and the
clinical care of patients. Werner then completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the University of
Utah and Huntsman Cancer Institute.
Werner is a member of several professional societies, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the
American Society of Hematology, and the Southwest Oncology Group. She participates in clinical trials and clinical
research for patients with breast and gynecologic malignancies, as well as patients at high risk for breast and ovarian
cancer.
