A postdoctoral research position is available immediately at the Huntsman Cancer Institute at University of Utah in the laboratory of Dr. Rodney Stewart. Our laboratory studies mechanisms underlying neural crest stem cell survival and migration during development and disease. We are particularly interested in neural crest signaling pathways that are re-activated in tumors to promote cancer metastasis, with an emphasis on translation studies to discover novel therapeutics targeted against metastatic tumors.
We use the zebrafish model to identify genes involved in neural crest migration using both forward genetic screens and genomic approaches. A number of zebrafish models of human diseases are now established, including neural crest-derived cancers, which allows us to rapidly screen through potential metastatic genes identified in the embryonic screens. Currently, several projects originating from both genetic and genomic screens are available for study. For more information on current projects see: http://medicine.utah.edu/oncsci/faculty/rstewart.htm
