Zebrafish Facility

Zebrafish Facility

Our state-of-the-art zebrafish facility measures 2,800square feet and houses 6,000 multi-rack tanks. In addition it has a separate quarantine room, which makes it the largest facility in North America built by Aquatic Habitats. The facility is shared by seven labs with diverse interests and varying needs. The senior zebrafish facility manager is Gretchen King, a PhD scientist who has two other full time and four part-time technicians working with her. This team takes care of maintaining wildtype stocks, 7-days-a-week feedings, and cleaning fish tanks. In addition, they are a great resource to identify and mend health problems the fish might experience, as well as to optimize fecundity and time to sexual maturity. We have a separate microscope room for fluorescent microscopy and multispectral imaging, and two rooms for injections accommodating up to eight injection stations.
