The Thoracic Oncology Program’s
goal is to provide an individualized treatment plan for every patient
with confirmed or suspected tumors within the chest. Collaboration and
consultation of team members from oncology, surgery, radiology, pathology, and pulmonology
specialties accomplishes this goal.

Our program offers patients:
• Comprehensive consultation and treatment, including chemotherapy, radiation
therapy, surgery, and possible clinical trial participation
• A broad range of diagnostic imaging servicesradiological examinations
such as chest radiography (chest X-rays), CT scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear
medicine scans, ultrasounds, positron emission tomography (PET) scans and more
• Endoscopy procedures including bronchoscopy, esophagoscopy,
mediastinoscopy, esophageal dilatation, bronchial dilatation, laser surgery,
and brachytherapy
• Pathology services for diagnosing tumor including cytogenetics, cytology,
surgical pathology, and other specialties
• Prompt correspondence and collaboration with referring physicians
• Second opinions
• Pain
Medicine and Palliative Care Services, a holistic program offering medical
treatments and complementary therapies, addresses physical, emotional, and
interpersonal needs at the time of diagnosis, during or after cancer treatment,
or with progressive disease. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life
for cancer patients and their families, while respecting their personal
values and preferences.
• Huntsman Online Patient Education
service (HOPE). This site presents information on cancer prevention,
detection, treatment, care, and coping strategies, tailored to specific types and stages of the
disease. The site also provides references to related books, audiotapes, journals, pamphlets,
and videos available through local bookstores and other sources. This service is free. |
