HCI’s Pain Medicine and Palliative Care Program offers medical treatments and complementary therapies to address patients’ physical, emotional, and interpersonal needs at the time of diagnosis, during or after cancer treatment, or with progressive disease. Our goal
is to enhance quality of life for cancer patients and their families while respecting personal values and preferences.
Pain Medicine
Uncontrolled pain can interfere with cancer treatment and affects quality of life. Our team of medical specialists and other health care professionals provides a variety of pain treatments:
- Medications
- Anesthetic and surgical procedures
- Physical therapies
- psychological
- cognitive
- behavioral interventions
Utilizing currently available methods, pain can be managed without causing addiction or other difficult side effects.
Palliative Care
Palliative care is a comprehensive approach that enhances quality of life for patients and their families. Palliative care includes the following:
- medical management of pain and other symptoms such as nausea and fatigue
- psychological and spiritual support for patients and their families
- advance care planning when disease is incurable
- rehabilitation
- psychiatric care

Palliative care is an integral part of cancer care whether a person has
just been diagnosed, is in active treatment, has been successfully
treated, or has terminal illness.
Holistric Medicine
This program uses a broad range of therapies to help promote wellness for patients and their families. To incorporate the benefits of complementary medicine into your health care, we may make referrals to qualified professional providers for the following:
- nutritional services
- physical medicine and rehabilitation services
- massage therapy
- acupuncture
- hypnosis, guided imagery, relaxation and stress management
