Cancer Center Support Grant Guidelines
"The selection of members of a center’s Programs is one of the most critical decisions made by leadership. Functional and productive
programs select individuals for their scientific excellence and, just as importantly, for their commitment to work together."
Selection Criteria
- Cancer-related research interests
- Scientific excellence
- Peer-reviewed extramural cancer-focused research support and/or clinical trial participation
- Demonstrated collaboration and interaction with other Cancer Center investigators
- Participation in Cancer Center functions
(For new recruits, the first two criteria plus a stated interest in participating in Cancer Center activities will be required.)
Membership Requirements
- Participation in Cancer Center activities such as collaborative research projects, clinical trials, program meetings, seminars, and retreats
- Timely and accurate submission of annual and special requests for research progress, other support, publications, and biosketch
- Acknowledgement of Cancer Center Support Grant in publications where appropriate

- Receipt of information on internal and external funding opportunities, receipt of the Cancer Center newsletter (Beacon), and direct notification
of special seminars and other Cancer Center activities
- Opportunity to apply for Cancer Center developmental research project funding
- Clinical research support for protocol management
- Access to Cancer Center Shared Resources
Membership Categories
- Cancer Center Member - PI, Co-investigator, or Project Leader on a peer-reviewed cancer-relevant grant. Newly recruited faculty without
extramural funding or clinical trials may be appointed as a Cancer Center Member for an interim period of three years assuming they have start-up
funds to support their research effort and are endorsed by CCSG leadership.
- Cancer Center Associate – Individual who contributes to the Cancer Center research portfolio and fosters a collaborative environment, but does
not have NCI-defined peer-reviewed funding.
- Membership category will be administratively determined based on an annual grants portfolio review.
Membership Review
- Membership will be reviewed annually, in conjunction with the CCSG progress report or competitive renewal.
