Cesium Irradiation Core Facility

This facility provides investigators a resource for the irradiation of most biological materials. The facility includes a J.L. Shepherd and Associates model 30, 6,000 Ci137 Cs instrument. This instrument permits irradiation of large samples, such as multiple mice, at a dosage rate as low as 0.5 Gy per minute. Small samples, such as cells or macromolecules in solution, can also be treated at dosage rates as high as 37 Gy per minute. This instrumentation affords a wide range of research applications. The core director is Dr. Raymond Warters.
