Fourteen U.S. centers funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), joined forces in 1999 to establish a national resource, the Cancer Genetics Network (CGN), to support investigations into the genetic basis of cancer susceptibility, explore mechanisms to integrate this new knowledge into medical practice, and identify ways of addressing the associated psychosocial issues. Together, the centers are working to make possible research that a single institution may not be able to accomplish because of insufficient numbers of participants, or the time needed to recruit them.
The Rocky Mountain Cancer Genetics Coalition at Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah is a part of CGN. We recruit and follow-up with individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer and their family members to provide information to a registry that is part of the Cancer Genetics Network.
