On your birthday each year, get a cancer screening. Contact your doctor for the tests that are right for you, and make sure those you love have "birthday checkups." Celebrate each birthday with good health.

All Ages

  • Skin self-exam 3-4 times a year
  • Skin exam by health-care provider yearly

18-39 (add to previous tests)

  • Men: Testicular self-exam monthly *
  • Women: Breast self-exam monthly
  • Women: Breast exam by health-care provider every three years.
  • Women: Pap test and pelvic exam yearly
* Highest incidence between ages of 15 to 34

40 and over (add to previous tests)

  • Women: Mammogram yearly
  • Men and Women: Cancer-related checkup yearly

50 and over (add to previous tests)

  • Men: PSA test and digital rectal exam for prostate cancer yearly
  • Men and Women: Stool blood test yearly and sigmoidoscopy every five years
  • Or: Colonoscopy exam every five to ten years, depending on family history
