Dr. Caligiuri is the Director of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, Chief Executive Officer of the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, and holds the John L. Marakas Nationwide Insurance Enterprise Foundation Chair in Cancer Research. Dr. Caligiuri is a Professor in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Molecular Virology, Immunology, and Medical Genetics.

Dr. Caligiuri received his undergraduate degree from the University of Buffalo, his Masters in Physiology and medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, California. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Caligiuri then completed a fellowship in medical oncology and bone marrow transplantation at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute at Harvard Medical School. He next spent seven years at Roswell Park Cancer Institute as an assistant, associate and full professor before moving to The Ohio State University in 1997.

Dr. Caligiuri’s research focuses on the molecular biology of leukemia, vaccine development to prevent lymphoma, and natural killer cell biology. Over 1000 patients have been entered on his clinical trials in leukemia and lymphoma. Dr. Caligiuri has authored more than 220 original scientific publications. He is an elected member of the American Association for Clinical Investigation, the American Association of Physicians, and an elected Fellow in the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In 2007, Dr. Caligiuri was elected as Vice President and President-elect of the Association for American Cancer Institutes. He is on numerous national committees, including the NCI Board of Scientific Counselors for Clinical Sciences, is an associate editor of Blood and sits on the editorial boards of Clinical Cancer Research and Molecular Cancer Therapeutics.
